THE ASSEMBLY

Five moves.
One hot bowl.

The practical order is supported by published ramen recipes; the visual grouping is our own styling suggestion. Keep taste and temperature ahead of symmetry.

  1. 01Prepare the toppingsIllustrated step
Semi-realistic watercolor illustration of ramen toppings prepared around an empty cream bowl: noodles, chashu, egg, menma, scallions and nori.
    STEP 01 · ASSEMBLY

    Prepare the toppings

Slice the chashu and egg, portion the menma and scallions, and keep the nori ready. A finished bowl cools quickly, so the final arrangement should be brief.

  2. 02Add seasoning and oilIllustrated step

    STEP 02 · ASSEMBLY

    Add seasoning and oil

Warm the serving bowl. Add the seasoning base and aromatic oil if your recipe uses them, followed by hot broth. Follow your particular recipe for amounts and order.

  3. 03Add and align the noodlesIllustrated step

    STEP 03 · ASSEMBLY

    Add and align the noodles

Drain the cooked noodles well. Lift them into the broth with chopsticks, straighten a small visible bundle, then fold it gently into the bowl. This optional restaurant-style motion makes the center look deliberate.

  4. 04Arrange chashu and eggIllustrated step
Semi-realistic watercolor illustration of chashu, egg halves and menma added to the ramen bowl.
    STEP 04 · ASSEMBLY

    Arrange chashu and egg

Try two overlapping chashu slices on one side, egg halves together on another, and a compact group of menma. Leave some broth and noodles visible. This composition is our editorial example, not a fixed Japanese rule.

    STEP 05 · ASSEMBLY

    Finish with scallions and nori

Add a small mound of sliced scallions and tuck nori against the far rim. Use any final oil or seasoning according to the recipe. Serve at once while the soup is hot and the toppings are fresh.
